The Invisible War: Part 2

The Sea of Stars formed a scintillating walkway under the feet of the throngs of mourners who attended Vivec's funeral. The dead god's angels performed their final duties for their master as they bore him into that infinite abyss. Though the golden tones of his skin had lost their luster and the azure tattoos that adorned him had faded, Vivec's lifeless body still glowed with the splendor due a god.

The gods followed in the procession, Arigon's face contorted with pain and Layla weeping tears as rivers. Legends claim that it was the only time Icthareon ever shed a tear. And even Vrojk was present, his face emotionless as he silently took up the rear of the divine contingent. The angels bore the body to the designated spot, a swirling mass of celestial energy that would mark the departure point of Vivec's corpse. At this nexus, Arigon led the gods in a ritual that sealed the two swords, Draconis and Cardiclast, within the heart of Vivec, seeking to prevent a repetition of the tragedy that took one of their own from them.

The mortals on Primus saw a beautiful aurora like none before or since as Vivec's body drifted away into the endless night of the Sea of Stars. For ages his body drifted, colossal in its scope, and it developed into a world of its own. His golden skin became its flowling dunes, his tattoos its winding lakes. Every creature that lived there was touched and changed by his latent magic, and all the while Draconis and Cardiclast slept in the caverns of his heart.

In time the land-corpse of Vivec was forgotten to all but the most shrewd loremasters. Only a few supernatural creatures remembered this land of wonder and the deadly artifacts it contained. One of these was Thraxis, the ice devil. He held onto this secret, keeping it like a treasure until he would find use for it, and that opportunity arose with a young warrior named Ghaleon Ebonheart. Ghaleon's ambition drove him, and he struck a deal with Thraxis. In exchange for the location of Draconis, he pledged to retrieve a silver ring from the corpse of Vivec.

Convincing his fellow adventurers Malcolm and Soirse to accompany him, Ghaleon made his way through a portal from Primus to Vivec. They braved the tribes of vile yugoloths that inhabited the surface, making their way into the cavernous entrails of the dead god. They fought off magically twisted creatures and eventually reached the heart. However, when Ghaleon went to claim Draconis, he saw an empty spot where another sword had been. Another warrior was already wielding Cardiclast.

He laid claim to the black dragon sword, and its draconic spirit emerged to challenge him. Though the fight was arduous, Ghaleon emerged the victor and bearer of Draconis. The swords had awoken, but they remained separate. Destiny foretold the meeting of the bearers of the swords; now only time waited for it to happen.
